Organized in 1921 to enhance conservation of the outdoor
resources of Pennsylvania and increase the recreation found there. The
protection, preservation and conservation of wildlife and other natural
resources as well as the improvement of hunting and fishing within
Pennsylvania were the goals set forth.
One of the founding clubs of the League was the Homestead
Sportsmen's Club. This club also has the distinction of being the first
organized sportsmen's club in the United States of America, and is recorded
in the Congressional Record as such.
Incorporated as a non-profit organization and charted by the
Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County.
Members of the Allegheny County Sportsmen's League have been
foremost in demanding legislation to combat stream pollution, restore and
control strip-mining operations and conserve our natural resources.
